At the moment Gerry is regarded as the most prolific Oral/Folklore Historians currently at work in the City of Dublin. His 6 half hour Radio Program project called “Raised on Songs and Stories” (2010) is now available, free to listen, on Podcast world wide and also on 3 CD talking book set in all Dublin Libraries. He presents a weekly show on local radio “The Rocky Road” which features Dublin people from all walks of life talking about their life experiences and giving the odd song of course.
In 2002 Gerry spent 2 years recording over 100 people in his native Village of Santry and surrounding townlands of Cloghran, Clonshaugh, Coolock Lane, Ballymun Cross, The Boot, Belcamp, Dardistown and Turnapin Lane. Titled “The Voices of Santry” all recordings are on a 3 CD set with track listings included, again all available in Dublin Libraries. Gerry has been guest speaker with many Dublin Historical Societies explaining his Modus Operandus and playing various tracks giving the anecdotal background to each of the 100 segments. A great night is always had by all. A celebration of our Oral/Folklore/Storytelling heritage.Gerry is “Keeping it lit!” as they say in Tipperary….
